No Hay Luz

Power outages have been happening in Puerto Rico way before LUMA, however, residents were told things would get better with this company and it has just gotten worse. Puerto Ricans  have spent more time on average without power than before this company stepped foot on the island. Even with all of the outages, LUMA has raised electricity bills while the CEO makes 1.1 million a year. Although it is understandable that an infrastructure cannot be completely fixed overnight, it is proven that things have gotten worse. LUMA’s whole discourse about the many outages is the overgrown vegetation if not the fauna of the island causing all of the service interruptions. They have blamed everything but their own incompetence and negligence.

It is disheartening that seven years after Hurricane Maria, when taxpayers in Puerto Rico where forced to contribute so that LUMA could enter the market, experienced line workers were fired, and seven increases in the electricity bill, Puerto Rico still does not have reliable electric power and utility bills are at prices that majority of locals cannot afford.
