My mother wanted to take on a home project by turning a place into an airbnb. This past summer she went to Puerto Rico to look at properties with my abuelo Georgie. At one point they were trying to contact the realtor, and my grandfather was calling her. His phone number has the area code of Puerto Rico, 787, there was no answer from her. He called a couple of times. After many phone calls my mother tried calling her. The realtor immediately picked up the phone while my grandfather was right next to my mom. My mother had just switched her phone number recently at the time, it was no longer under the 787 area code, but under 508, an area code that belongs to Massachusetts. This strikes as something particularly strange. It shows how realtors in Puerto Rico are purposefully giving property opportunities to people in the United States.
